Danny Boyle Teaming Up With Peep Show’s Writers For New Comedy Drama TV Series About Cops

boyleI won’t pretend to be a big fan of Danny Boyle, particularly not when the short-circuited Trance is still so fresh in my mind, but I’m certainly curious about his new TV project, a so-called “comedy drama” about cops in modern day Britain.

Boyle is set to direct the pilot episode of Babylon which has been scripted and devised by Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong, the creators of Peep Show and Fresh Meat and  screenwriters on the superb Four Lions. They’re smart guys and they’ll be going into this with a real point of view, I’m sure, and that’s what I’m interested in seeing.

There’s been a lot of UK cop shows, but I’m not sure how many of them were high quality stuff through and through. I’d probably rather watch Monkfish or Swallow than The Sweeney or The Gentle Touch.

Babylon should be on air next year, and if it’s popular – I bet you it is – then a a series will follow.
