Booze Geek: Noble Rot

Beer: Noble Rot

Brewery: Dogfish Head

You smell that in the air? Like something is rotting…

Okay, Dogfish Head's Noble Rot doesn't smell like the walking dead, but it's certainly got some interesting things going on with it. When poured, Noble Rot produces a mild head that does not last very long. However, it clings to the side of the glass, like some life form trying to cling to its last reaches of existence. The beer has a slightly greenish hue to its amber color.

Noble Rot is noted for being brewed with two types of grape must and the scent is very much present when giving it a whiff. It practically smells like a wine. And when I gave it a sip, that grape taste made itself known. It not overpowering, but it is a prominent part of this brew. It gives the beer a taste akin to that of white wine or champagne.

On the palate, Noble Rot is very comfortable. It is dry like a wine and produces and aftertaste that rises back up, similar to how wine creates that feeling on the tongue after being drank. Overall, this is a very interesting beer. I don't know if I would say I loved Noble Rot, but it's certainly a beer worth checking out for the experience.

What to Drink This To:

Well, since we're dealing with rot, I think drinking this to your favorite zombie movie would be perfect. Personally, I am a big fan of Zombi 2, the unofficial sequel to Dawn of the Dead, which I happen to like a lot more. Right now, I am reading World War Z and I think pouring a glass of Noble Rot to accompany my readings would be perfect.
