Hawaii To Host 20% Of Gareth Edward's Godzilla, Back Of Aaron Johnson's Head And Special Effects

Patrick Dane writes for Bleeding Cool.

Gareth Edwards is currently thigh-deep in the filming of Godzilla. One of the key takeaways I have from the production reports I've been watching is just how often the crew relocate. They seem to move from state to state, even country to country like no one's business. Their latest stop off is in Hawaii – but I think we can expect them to stay there for a good while yet.

Local news outlet KITV posted this video showing extras shambling around a devastated set, clearly in the aftermath of a monster assault.

Ten out of ten for:

Lights, camera, destruction.

While the video had a cute charm to it, there wasn't too much of major, news breaking interest except – perhaps – for one little snippet:

Hawaii will be the backdrop of around 20% of the motion picture.

Besides that, I guess I only learned that I can expect to see the back of Aaron Johnson's head. And then there was that outlandish claim that the film is expected to have "tremendous special effects".

I actually wonder if this is the mess made by one of Godzilla's mates…? It's all but confirmed that Godzilla will go up against some other large monstrosities in the movie, and while Waikiki has a fair few buildings, Godzilla has tended to turn up in the mega-cities, while its his counterparts who turn up on tropical islands – and since the movie appears be largely based in the US, Hawaii is about as tropical as you get.
