Booze Geek – CascaZilla

CascazillaDylan Gonzalez writes;

Beer: CascaZilla
Brewer: Ithaca Beer Co.

CascaZilla is a beer available throughout the year, produced by the Ithaca Beer Co. It is a red IPA, with a deep, red coloration to it, but is clear when poured into a glass. CascaZilla does not maintain a strong head when poured, thus leaving it fairly standard looking in a glass.

The beer does not offer a significantly strong smell when poured and seems to lose it after sitting. Fittingly enough, this is when the beer's strength emerges. Initial sips of the beer did not produce the caramel flavor that it is supposed to have, but after letting the beer sit for a few minutes, the caramel taste emerged quite well. It also has a strong, smoky aftertaste, also with hints of a lingering hoppiness.

It is not, by any stretch, the strongest IPA I have tasted, even bordering on the lighter side in terms of hoppiness. In fact, the beer is quite smooth on the palate, but the smoky, slightly spicy aftertaste can certainly be felt. I strongly recommend letting the beer sit for a few minutes to allow the caramel and hops flavors to coalesce, as well as sipping on it slowly to moderately.

What to drink this to:

As the name might suggest, I would recommend popping in any Godzilla movie and sipping away as the classic kaiju smashes down the cities of Japan. For some reason, I feel like this would go well with the later Showa era Godzilla films, which are cornier in nature, but feature some real standouts, like the two MechaGodzilla films.

Dylan Gonzalez happens to love beer and comic books and luckily found a place to write about the former because he has no idea how to actually make money in the  real world.  He lives in a cave in New Jersey.
