Report: Mel Gibson Will Be The Villain In The Third Expendables Film

mel gibsonSylvester Stallone is at work with unexpected by nonetheless really bloody exciting director Patrick Hughes right now, trying to work out quite what they’ll do with the third Expendables film.

The influence Stallone seems most inspired to echo is The Raid, Gareth Evans’ brilliant Welsh-Indonesian action picture of a year or so back. He’s also keen for their to be female action heroes in the film too, which has led to Milla Jovovich coming in to negotiate for a role.

And there are some ideas for a memorable villain too.

According to Showbiz 411, an unverified source has claimed that Mel Gibson will play this bad guy. Roger Friedman at 411 couches his story in a sensible, failsafe manner – even the headline just claims that Gibson is “said to be” joining the film.

But it chimes. Stallone apparently asked Gibson to direct the film a few months back, but he declined.

Even if Gibbo decides not to become Expendables fodder we can see him as the villain of Machete Kills in just a few months.

Production on Expendables 3 is expected to start in the fourth quarter of the year but there’s a lot more cast to be locked in before then. For now, though, expect Stallone, Jovovich, probably Gibson, Wesley Snipes, Jackie Chan and maybe even Nicolas Cage – though he is rather good at attaching himself to films and then bailing before production.
