Contrast And Compare: M. Night Shyamalan’s After Earth Movie, Peter David’s After Earth Novel

Peter David is the media-hopping writer behind Star Trek novels, Hulk comic books and Babylon 5 TV episodes, amongst literally hundreds of other genre pieces in just about every medium I can think of. I think he’s also spilled a few words in the Bleeding Cool forum.

His novelisation of After Earth is available now, and I thought it would be interesting to offer both a clip from M. Night Shyamalan‘s film and David’s version of just the same scene.

So here’s the clip.

And here’s the excerpt.

BEACONWell, both clip and excerpt seem pretty clean and fuss-free to me. Curious how the emphasis seems more emotional on the page, though. Or maybe that’s just me.

Peter David has also contributed, alongside Michael Jan Friedman and Robert Greenberger to A Perfect Beast, the official prequel novel with additional short stories set in the same world.

Both books are on the shelves. The movie is in US cinemas already, and opens across the UK tomorrow.
