It looks like Captain America: The Winter Soldier is going to see the return of the mysterious video conference council from The Avengers, and this time, they’ll be reporting to Robert Redford‘s character, high-flying SHIELD agent Alexander Pierce.
According to Twitch, the roles have gone to Jenny Agutter, Chin Han, Alan Dale and Bernard White. Agutter was part of the council as featured in The Avengers, but her companions from that lineup – Powers Boothe, Arthur Darbinyan and Donald Li – seem to have moved on.
It’s interesting that Agutter has come back. Maybe they’re building to something. Perhaps she’ll pop up in Agents of SHIELD too. I’m pretty sure they’re going to be significant in the next Avengers film.
Indeed, I’d give you better odds on Alexander Pierce being in Avengers 2 villain than, say, Russell Tovey being the next Doctor Who.
Now, while we’re here, some pictures of Sebastian Stan in his Winter Soldier costume appeared on the website of The Plain Dealer – my old local paper from my Cleveland days. The film is currently shooting in their city.
According to another Plain Dealer story which profiles the film’s directors, Joe and Anthony Russo:
The movie is a stand-alone story, but will incorporate themes from the first Captain America, as well as Iron Man 3, this year’s box office king, and Thor: The Dark World, which debuts in November. All of those story lines will then feed into the Avengers sequel, due in 2015.
It’s hard to see just what from Iron Man 3 will feed into this film. Perhaps we’ll see more Extremis. Or maybe just find out what the SHIELD guys were up to so that they couldn’t help Tony.
