Kevin Feige Says “Iron Man Is A Big Part Of The Avengers 2″

IRON MAN 3Iron Man 3 is now on general release in North America and I expect that there will be those reading this story who caught a midnight screening. I certainly hope it’s going down as well over there as it is over here in the UK.

On the occasion of this big release, Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige shared a call with Superhero Hype.

Now, Robert Downey Jr. is still to negotiate a new contract to appear in any more movies for Marvel, but plans are certainly pressing ahead as though the parties will be able to make an agreement. Feige said:

Currently, as you may imagine, Iron Man is a big part of Avengers 2 and that’s what we’re focusing on and what Joss [Whedon] is focusing on. So where we go after that remains to be seen, but certainly, Avengers 2 being the next appearance, the next storyline for Iron Man.

Do I think there will be another Iron Man movie? Of course I do. Who will be in that movie and who will be a part of that movie? Who knows? And how far down the line will it be? Will it be right after Avengers 2, will it be a few years after Avengers 2? Who knows?

That would seem to be a very candid assessment of the state of business.

Though there’s no pay-off at the end of Iron Man 3 that would preclude the return of Tony Stark, and the credit roll even ends with a promise that he will return, the film does leave the character in an entirely new place. It’s a more subtle piece of set-up for an Avengers sequel than the tease of an infinity gem or a shadowy intergalactic overlord, but there’s definitely some threads here that Whedon will have to weave into his tapestry.

While we’re here, I want to flag something else up. The Superhero Hype interview was carried out by Ed Douglas. I’ve never met Ed, and I don’t think we’ve ever exchanged more than a couple of tweets, and those were hardly idle or just social, but I do know that he’s unfortunately having to fight leukemia right now, that he has no health insurance and that there’s ongoing crowdfunding campaign to assist in paying for his treatment. Do check out the Give Forward page if you feel you may be able to help out.
