Natalie Dormer Is Elementary’s Irene Adler

natalie dormerThough they’ve yet to reveal their Moriarty, the folks behind Stateside Holmes show Elementary have now announced the casting of their Irene Adler.

Here’s how Conan Doyle had The King of Bohemia describe the character:

she has a soul of steel. She has the face of the most beautiful of women, and the mind of the most resolute of men.

Some episodes of Elementary have suggested that Adler may have already died, off screen, but I guess most viewers would have known better than to trust that.

She’s now going to be popping up, on screen, and presumably alive and kicking. According to CBS’ announcement, Natalie Dormer has won the role, for at least the last three hours of the current series.

You likely know Dormer for Game of Thrones, though she also had roles in The Tudors, The Fades and Captain America, and she played Door in the recent Radio 4 version of Neverwhere.

Will Adler provide excitement enough that they won’t also bring Moriarty in for the end of season?
