Tonight’s Doctor Who Surprise – Pics From The Rings Of Akhaten That Caught Me Off Guard

We know what to expect from the Rings of Akhaten tonight, right? It’s a Doctor Who adventure set on an alien world, featuring more different on-screen creatures than any other episode in the show’s history. It’s a grand sci-fi adventure that takes The Doctor and Clara away from all this Earthbound drudgery.

And we all dismissed that prequel minisode from a couple of weeks back as a little aside, didn’t we? It was a fleeting riff on the companion-as-kid thing that Steven Moffat played out with Amy Pond and, at a pinch, River Song.

Well, that’s where I was standing until I saw these images from tonight’s episode. I think you’d probably call them spoilers.

Now, that’s properly intriguing, wouldn’t you say?

I think that Rich and I are going to live blog the episode as it airs on BBC One again tonight, at 6.15pm.
