The James Bond Producers Really Want Sam Mendes Back

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the producers of the James Bond franchise would quite fancy Sam Mendes to do another installment. It seems once a single movie in your franchise makes over a billion dollars at the box office, the producers aren’t too keen to change too much.

Less than a month ago, Sam Mendes counted himself out of the next Bond movie in order to pursue other passion projects, namely in the theatre. However, it seems that it won’t be without a few further questions being asked.

Getty Images, (via Coming Soon) got word from producer Barbara Broccoli and she insists that isn’t the end of Mendes’ involvement in the series. In fact, she plainly states:

We will get him back, we haven’t given up hope… Maybe not for the next one… but we will get him back again.

Fellow producer Michael G. Wilson added that:

We are working on him, we hope that maybe he will have gotten inspired to come back.

I suspect that might only be wishful thinking as I am pretty sure Mendes wouldn’t have publicly announced himself off the project without considering it thoroughly. Even if Mendes himself didn’t exactly rule out returning:

They need someone working on it now… I’m doing my theatre projects and then I’ll work out… I’ve definitely left the door open though… I’ve never really repeated myself, done the same type of movie one after the other, so just give me a chance to think about what I actually want to say.

So we possibly have a few theatre projects and a movie or two before he returns, but I am sure that there aren’t too many disappointed by the news that he could be back. Hell, he could even be persuaded to come back onto Bond 24 and this all have been a wild goose chase. Either way, it seems we may well be seeing him back at some point or another. The producers seem pretty sure anyways.
