First Trailer For Hummingbird – A Jason Statham Thriller With Substance?

There’s an awful lot going on in this trailer for the Jason Statham thriller Hummingbird, but it also feels like there’s a lot left unsaid, a lot to be learned.

And while there’s still a lot of big, genre beats – threatening somebody on the edge of the balcony, going on the running and cutting off your hair, throwing the money in the air – there are also hints of a more sophisticated context. And might Statham get to turn in a more ambitious performance?

Writer-director Steven Knight did great work on his screenplays Dirty Pretty Things and Eastern Promises, and I think there’s a good chance that Hummingbird will slot in nicely alongside them.
