Live Action Patlabor Set For 2014

An official website has opened, heralding the arrival of a live action Mobile Police Patlabor movie in 2014. The URL mentions both Patlabor and Next Generation so I’m thinking this will be some kind of sequel. I guess that makes sense – the originals were set in the future timeline of… the late 90s.

And here’s the big announcement image, showing one of the Patlabor robocops.

patlabor imageOne thing we don’t know is who is making this thing. The original anime and manga were created by Mamoru Oshii and Kazunori Itō, alongside mech designer Yutaka Izubuchi and character designer Akemi Takada.

Perhaps the biggest mystery, though, is if this is headed to television or to the cinema. There’s no clue anywhere on the site.
