Godzilla Has Started Shooting – Official Cast List Announced

godzilla1Warner Bros. want you to know that their Godzila reboot started shooting today in Vancouver. It’s certainly very exciting that Gareth Edwards is finally underway on his second film.

The officially announced cast list adds one name we hadn’t heard before. Test your up-to-dateness by trying to spot who:

Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, David Strathairn and Bryan Cranston.

Have a gold star if you said Ken Watanabe.

The press release makes it sounds like David Strathairn and Bryan Cranston have smaller roles, the kind of “With” or “And” parts that come later in the opening credits. The most amazing thing about that is the implication that Juliette Binoche has a key part to play.

In a Godzilla film. Wow. Superb.

Max Borenstein, Frank Darabont and Dave Callaham are named as the writers, bumping Drew Pearce down to a “script doctor” classification, I suppose.

Godzilla is due in US cinemas next May, in 3D. I expect it’s being shot in 2D as the press release makes nothing of it.

Next year is to be the 60th anniversary of Godzilla. Expect a lot of noise about this.
