Sherlock Set For A Fourth Series Before The Third Even Starts Filming… But Then?

Benedict Cumberbatch is hanging out as a guest at the South Bank Awards this afternoon, and he’s been chatting with The Radio Times. All credit is due to their reporter for the fast turn around on this very teasing little news nugget.

I can only imagine the reporter’s scramble to a cell phone after Cumberbatch told them:

We’ve agreed to two more series [of Sherlock] but I could get into trouble for saying that. All I know at the moment is I’m doing these three [of series three] and another three… It just depends on Martin and I’s availability, how long we can keep it going. It depends on Steven [Moffat]‘s ability. I’d love to keep it going.

Lots of people would love them to keep it going. But… doesn’t “depends on Martin and I’s availability” really mean “As long as we don’t get any better offers”?

Production on the third series starts next Monday. Paul McGuigan won’t be back to direct any of these episodes – I don’t think well miss him – with  Jeremy Lovering and Colm McCarthy stepping up to take over.

Plans seem to be for Sherlock season three to air this winter. I guess the question now is – when will they get to film the fourth?
