Does the presence of so-called Hulkbuster armour in Iron Man 3 signal an appearance by The Hulk?
Of course not, but it was always a possibility. A remote one. And it now seems even less likely as Mark Ruffalo last night tweeted:
A lot of folks have been asking about the Next Hulk. The next time you see my Hulk it will be in the Avengers2. No plans for stand alone.

Which also means no Hulk in Thor 2, Captain America 2 or Guardians of the Galaxy either, though I wasn’t really expecting to see him in any case.
Seeing as Joss Whedon is the only person to have really pulled off a big screen Hulk so far, I’m happy it’s falling in his lap again.
Ruffalo went on to elaborate on his second point:
I am not giving up on another stand alone HULK. But it’s not in the works right now. One never knows what the future will bring.

Yet another knock against the Planet Hulk and World War Hulk rumours. I’m sure conspiracy theorists will start reading into this now. Smokescreen! Lies!
Personally, I don’t think they’re lying at all. I think Marvel Phase 3 is headed in an altogether different direction than the Hulk rumours suggested…
This Hulk hiatus doesn’t mean Ruffalo will be vanishing from our screens, of course, and we’ll be seeing him in both Now You See Me and Foxcatcher over just the next few months.
