Trailer: The Best Offer, From The Director Of Cinema Paradiso

Giuseppe Tornatore is still best known in the UK for Cinema Paradiso, his elegy to cinema’s flickering light. From this first trailer, it seems that The Best Offer will be another love story, though a rather lustier, edgier one, and set against the world of fine art auctions, which all looks a lot colder and harder than Paradiso’s projection room.

Donald Sutherland, Sylvia Hoeks and Jim Sturgess are in the supporting cast, while Geoffrey Wright stars as:

a solitary, cultured man, no longer young, whose reluctance to engage with others is equal only to the unerring obsessiveness with which he practices his profession of art expert and auctioneer.

Here’s the promo. It’s lo-res but Fabio Zamarion‘s cinematography still looks like bold, charged stuff.

Here’s the rest of the official blurb:

Requested to handle the discharge of the artistic wealth of an old building, the antiques dealer finds himself in the middle of a passion that will change his grey existence forever. It can be defined as a film on art seen as the sublimation of love, but also a love story engendered by art.
