Ten Minutes And A Sudden First Kill From The Maniac Remake With Elijah Wood

The first of today’s weekend viewing selections is the extended opening excerpt and two more scenes from Maniac, remade by Franck Khalfoun from the original William Lustig picture.

This version stars Elijah Wood as Frank, a brutal, serial killer with some pretty obvious issues, but Wood is mostly off-screen – as you’ll see from this excerpt, there’s a POV conceit. The screenplay is by High Tension‘s Alexandre Aja and Grégory Levasseur.

I saw the uncut version of Maniac at Frightfest and the more I think about it, the more that some of its knotty problems resolve and the more I can appreciate the ambition, sincerity and unsettling atmosphere. The film is opening across France on January 2nd.
