New Stephen Chow! First Teaser For His Take On Journey To The West

The next big-budget, Chinese-produced retelling of the Journey to the West story has been directed by Stephen Chow and Gallants’ Derek Kwok.

This brief teaser trailer was unveiled at a press conference in China today, along with the above poster. According to Mtime (via Twitch), Chow announced that he doesn’t have a major acting role in the film, contrary to earlier plans and, indeed, reports. That’s a shame, because he’s tremendous, but I’m still absolutely over the moon that we’re drawing in on a new film by him no matter what the circumstances.  His films have offered up a wonderful blend of Tex Avery, Billy Wilder and 80s-era Jackie Chan, amongst many other, rich flavours, and they shouldn’t necessarily gel as well as they do. Kwok’s Gallants was similarly excellent.
