eBay Art Not By Brendan McCarthy… But By Dave Elliott?

eBay Art Not By Brendan McCarthy… But By Dave Elliott?Over the weekend we reported on a piece of original Paradax art being sold on eBay as being drawn by Brendan McCarthy. Except Brendan McCarthy was sure it wasn't. The piece was pulled, but some curious conversations have revealed the truth. Brendan McCarthy writes;

Just to bring you up to speed, the mystery of this Paradax artwork has been solved.

Dave Elliott wrote to me and explained that he'd done a homage based on photocopies of some of my drawings (hence the inverted Mirkin on the page) to see what he'd be like inking my material. I had tried a few inkers on my Dredd stuff, the late Steve Whittaker was one. This is way back, late 80's or so.

In the end, Dave never showed it to me, and years later gave it to a UKAC auction… and somehow, it ended up in the hands of the Dave on Ebay, who, not unreasonably, thought it was one of mine. (Don't know why my signature's on it though.)

So, it wasn't by me, but was lightboxed off photocopies of my drawings, Nothing too sinister going on as far as I can tell. Case closed!

So, maybe the eBay seller could put it back online as… original art by Dave Elliott?
