The credits roster for Robopocalypse is heavy with names. I mean, obviously, it’s all names – but there are also names.
Steven Spielberg is directing; descending Fox chairman Tom Rothman is looking to take up a producer’s role on the film; the screenplay is by Buffy alum and Cabin in the Woods master Drew Goddard; and now, according to THR, the casting process is adding Anne Hathaway to Chris Hemsworth.
Obviously, it’s not going to be a cheap film.
And, yes, Drew Goddard is a name. Now. And so he should be.
I understand that most of the lead characters in Daniel Wilson’s novel are, at first, completely disassociated. Without having read it, and having picked most of what I know from chatting to just a small handful folk, my best guess is that Hathaway would play a single mother who has to fight off her daughter’s robotic toys and Hemsworth would be the military man faced with a rogue drone.
Robopocalypse, which may yet be the first feature shot entirely in the IMAX format, starts filming in the new year.
