Phantom Astronaut Makes A Leveled Landing

Phantom Astronaut is a new comic strip by Dekker Dreyer that's been picked up by Leveled Magazine in the US. The strip focuses on the lives of a three person DJ crew called "Phantom Astronaut" who frequently run into celebrities and wax philosophical about media culture.

Dekker told Bleeding Cool "I grew up reading these incredible indie strips in weeklies. I loved Red Meat, Pathetic Geek Stories and Life in Hell. Now that weeklies have cut most of their comics it feels like that whole genre is in decline. I really appreciate what Leveled is letting me do. Sometimes you'll see comics in Details or Rolling Stone, but they're usually dressed up ads. Leveled is committed to letting me do a full two page spread every month in glossy full color with very few editorial mandates. It's really unheard of. I get a kick out of seeing my characters ranting on a page next to a retrospective on Henry Rollins. I hope my strip gets people who don't read comics visiting their local retailer to see what else is available."

Leveled is available free, in print, and as Apple and Android apps.
