Nobody’s seen Stoker yet, but Chan-wook Park is ready to take on his second English language film. Variety reports the acclaimed Korean director is in talks to direct The Brigands of Rattleborge, from the Craig Zahler script that is one of the most buzzed about Black List toppers around.
The Western thriller will follow a sheriff and a doctor who seek revenge on a group of bandits who robbed and terrorized the occupants of a small town in the midst of a thunderstorm.
The violent nature of the film has caused it a long stay in development hell, and while Park is no stranger to violence and controversy and should handle the material with aplomb, the producers will most likely want to cast major stars for further financial security.
Spike Lee is currently gearing up to shoot his English language remake of Park’s classic revenge thriller Oldboy, while Park’s Stoker, starring Nicole Kidman and Mia Wasikowska, will be released on March 1, 2013. He also produced fellow Korean helmer Joon-ho Bong’s English language directorial debut, Snowpiercer, which recently wrapped.
