Currently going by the simple title of Jack Ryan, Paramount’s new reboot of the Tom Clancy-created political action thriller series will star Chris Pine in the title role and Kenneth Branagh, reputedly as the villain.
Branagh is also directing and has recently auditioned some potential female leads for the film, ultimately settling on Keira Knightley.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, she’ll be playing Ryan’s wife who Wikipedia tells me is called Caroline Muller “Cathy” Ryan, which seems to have its “Cathy” in the wrong place.
Poor girl seems to be in trouble:
The story centers on ex-Marine and Moscow-based financial analyst Jack Ryan (Pine), who uncovers a plot by his employer to finance a terrorist attack designed to collapse the U.S. economy. Ryan must race against time to save America and his wife (Knightley).
Is Branagh playing the employer? THR’s brackets suggest not.
It’s somewhat amusing to me that I’m more interested in the placements of some quotation marks and brackets than Keira Knightley’s casting, but there you go. Call it the Joe Wright effect.
