When A Robot Chicken Met Starro
Robot Chicken has long held the feather that consistently tickles the most sensitive part of my funny bone.  Show runners Brecken Meyer and Seth Green bring playing with action figures to the level of theatrical art, heroes to kids everywhere who took their action figures out of the box (mint condition be damned!).  In fact, I like to believe that the figures I long parted with in a forced garage sale (thanks Mom!) somehow made it into their wheelhouse. As most of my collection was hand me down super powers toys, I get especially excited when DC comics characters are added to the mix.  When I heard that Robot Chicken was devoting a whole special to DC comics, I nearly exploded.
Robot Chicken's unique brand of humor manages to eviscerate their targets with specialized knowledge that could only come from a place of devotion and love.  They did  it on the Star Wars special, and after seeing the sizzle reel, they'll do it on the DC Special.
Involved in this project is DC Entertainment's own Geoff Johns.  Though some members of Robot Chicken are well versed in DC lore, Johns was on hand to reach deep into 75 years of DC history to give such footnote characters as Mr. Banjo and Chillblaine a chance to shine with the big boys.
I'm going to watch this special if for no other reason than to see such respectful irreverence as Cyborg punching a little girl in the face and Joker shooting his own special blend of Joker venom from his squirting flower (it's piss!).  For many characters, this may be the only time they appear outside of comics.
The Robot Chicken DC Special will air on September 9th on adult swim.
