Mad Magazine Does Spider-Man And Double Thwips

Mad Magazine Does Spider-Man And Double Thwips

DC Comics are trying to increase the amount of copies MAD Magazine stocked by comic stores. To that effect they are going to overship the next four issues to comic store retailers, encouraging them to see how much it could sell on the shelves.

Issue #516 will be Spider-Man themed, with a Spider Alfred E Neuman on the cover, with some Dark Knight Rises stuff inside. So shops will be getting twice as many copies as they ordered, for free, as long as they order as least as many as they did of that first #516 issue.

I've never really taken to MAD… we seem to have the far superior Viz Comic here instead, fulfilling a similar role. Viz certainly sells some copies in comic shops over here, with the vast majority as newstand and subscriptions. Do you think MAD could ever take a strong place on the comic book shelf as well?
