Peter Weller Is Batman In Two-Film Adaptation Of The Dark Knight Returns

The upcoming Warner Premiere and DC Entertainment release of The Dark Knight Returns has been a long time coming, though I believe you heard about it here first.

Frank Miller and Klaus Janson’s comic has been divided into two films for this adaptation, the first of which will be released later this year, the second in 2013. Given those particular red X-es on the calendar I would expect a big unveiling at Comic-Con, and that may yet happen, but Heat Vision at least have some of the cast list and a few more details to get us warmed up ahead of time.

The big news is the casting of Peter Weller as Batman. This won’t be the first time that Weller has delivered some Frank Miller dialogue, as both actor and writer have Robocop 2 listed on their rap sheets.

Ariel Winter (who?) of Modern Family (what?) is to voice Robin; Wade Williams will be Harvey Dent and Two Face; and David Selby is set to show up as… dunno. Could be Gordon, maybe?

The films have been scripted by Bob Goodman and the directr of both parts is Jay Oliva, a director of several other straight-to-disc comic-to-toon films and a sometime storyboard artist including, it says here, on Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel

This could really work. How long it is going to be that they’ve split it into two films I don’t know, but I wouldn’t expect more than 2 hours 45 in total. Almost soundss like a scam when I look at it like that…

Here’s hoping that whatever they cook up is worth the double purchase.
