The Justice League Is The Walking Dead

The Justice League Is The Walking DeadYou know how last week I said that The Justice League was now the same as The Authority?

I still hold to that. But today's issues sees them also pretty much like The Walking Dead.

The book seems to be completely seperating the Justice League from humanity. Green Arrow refers to them as Gods. Steve Trevor explains to the government that they are "a tight knit group" who won't take on any new members. Also with a reference to the Wildstorm comic Team 7 which, now it seems, Steve Trevor was a part of.

And this is a now Justice League who have been around a while. Who don't so much use Bleed Doors but Boom Tubes, around three thousand times so far, which sometimes accidentally take them to Apokalips.

They've been "surviving" as superheroes. That's basically how they now act, together, watching their backs, keeping together, and staying suspicious of outsiders, like Green Arrow. They've been hurt before.

Everyone is quick to pull the trigger. Wonder Woman is Michonne, wielding a sword. The Martian Manhunter was the equivalent of Shane. Possibly the Governor. And Aquaman… well you know he'll lose his hand again one day.

But combining one of the best superhero comics with one of the most popular non-superhero comics today, that's got to be good, right? Doing what they believe is right, surviving against hostile forces, suspicious of anything that might upset the status quo,  the two strands work so well together…

Today's Walking Dead is also bang on the money. But just a the Justice League are being persuaded to drop their suspicions from the appeals of an outsider, Rick has been having a change of heart. And this issue, the end of an arc sees a real turning point in his attitude to the new world and his and his team's place in it.

The Justice League Is The Walking Dead

So while the Justice League is mirroring the old Walking Dead, the new Walking Dead is making strides in a different direction…

Justice League #8 and Walking Dead #96 are both published today. Comics courtesy of Orbital Comics of London who currently have an exhibition on It's Dark In London running, with a Roger Langridge signing and exhibition to follow.
