Things To Do In Playboy When You're In The Walking Dead

We reported earlier about a Walking Dead strip appearing in the new issue of Playboy, showing the origin of warriot Michonne, speculated to appear at the end of this season's TV series.

But it's not just Michonne who is in the strip. So is comic book retailer Chris Brown of Comics & More, Madison Heights, MI.

One of his customers sent this email;

Dear Mr. Adlard,

Hi, my name is Dan and I'm a long time fan of your work on the Walking Dead. I consistently enjoy your depictions of Rick's struggle for survival, and the image of Carl with his face shot off in issue 83 is perhaps the most memorable and shocking image I've seen in more than twenty-five years of reading comics. I'm writing with a question that you probably get a thousand times a month, but hopefully, I can justify this particular request. I'm trying to get something cool for my comics retailer, Chris Brown, for the holidays, and I was wondering if you would 'zombify' him in an upcoming issue of the Walking Dead. I'm not asking for anything beyond using his pic as a zombie model (although if he could be a zombie that does something more than lurk ominously, that would be super cool). Chris is a huge fan of the horror genre, to the point that there's nothing I can buy him horror-related that he doesn't already own, and he also tirelessly promotes your book to his customers. I wouldn't be reading if not for his recommendation, and the same is true for dozens of other customers at his shop. In all my years of reading comics, he is by far the best shop manager I've come across; when I met him I mostly just read vanilla superhero books, now the majority of my comic purchases are creator-owned books such as yours which push the limits of the genre. I try to say thanks each year during the holiday season, usually just with a bottle of whiskey, but wanted to do something better this year if possible.

Anyway, if you're willing, this would undoubtedly become a highlight in Chris's already impressive horror collection. You can find his picture on youtube.comby searching 'WeekNGeek,' and viewing any of the posted files. I've included a link at the bottom of the email; it's clean, but you probably shouldn't trust internet links from random dudes. It's easy to find on youtube. This is his weekly comic preview show, and if you watch a week in which Walking Dead was released, you're sure to see an enthusiastic plug for your book. In the video, chris is the guy on the right (I'm sure Mike Ortiz, on the left, would also love to be zombified, but I don't personally know him). As I already mentioned, I'm sure numerous fans have asked for this, but in this case the recipient also happens to be a comic shop owner who has gone above and beyond the call to increase sales of your book in his corner of the world, so I hope you'll consider it. If you just don't do this kind of thing, that's cool, and it won't make me think less of you or your book. Do please respond to me with an answer though, so I can either tell Chris to be on the lookout for this in the coming months, or figure out something else to get him for the holidays.

Thanks for your time and consideration, and keep up the great work as Walking Dead moves towards that hundred issue milestone. I'll be along for the ride, until Rick reaches the end of the road, or the zombies all drop dead (again).

Charlie Adlard replied, and told him that Chris would be appearing in Playboy but to keep it secret. Well, the secret is out now.

Here is Chris' zombie debut in the new Playboy, out now, biting Michonne's boyfriend…
