Idris Elba To Star In Warren Ellis’ BBC Adventure Show, Ascension

From the basics on offer it’s sounding a little bit like The Fountain, but I’m sure writer Warren Ellis has plenty of tricks up his sleeve for Ascension, a new adventure series set up at the BBC.

The show’s premise, as conceived by producer Vivek Tiwary and his wife, Dr. Tracy Dennis-Tiwary, offers up two interlinked lead roles: the Egpytian inventor, medic and architect Imhotep; and a similarly sharp minded astronomer in the near future.

According to Deadline, Idris Elba is looking at both parts.

I heard some talk of this show while it was in development and have been rooting for it along the way. At the moment it’s set up as a mini-series, but we all know that the BBC can run and run and run with a good genre show when their audience show that they want it.

Stay tuned for more on this one. I think it’s going to be right up our street.
