La Cinémathèque Francais have started their Tim Burton retrospective with an extended “masterclass” session, and it has now been made available online by Arte.
The chat kicks off, as you’d imagine from La Cinémathèque, by homing in on the idea that Burton fills his films with self portraits… and, yeah, they come back to that notion in a couple of different ways, but there is more to this discussion than that, thankfully.
Burton has gotten better and better at talking about his work as the years go on. He’s now just as capable at this stuff as many of his peers. I’m about thirty five minutes in right now and I’ve been interested all along.
Burton has Dark Shadows coming along in May and Frankenweenie in October and I’m looking forward to them both.
