Full List Of Nominations For This Year’s Razzie Awards

’twas the night before Oscar and all through the house… much bemusement at the nominations for this year’s Razzies.

The line up is actually record breaking. While there are only ten categories in the Golden Raspberry Awards, Adam Sandler vehicle Jack and Jill has managed to achieve twelve nominations – but, actually, three other films have received more nominations that there are categories before. The record being broken is actually being shattered by Adam Sandler, netting eleven nominations as a single individual, beating Eddie Murphy’s previous score of five very easily.

Once upon a time, the Razzies used to be rather more provocative. Look at the nominations for Worst Director from the inaugural awards in 1980, for example:

  • John G. Avildsen for The Formula
  • Brian De Palma for Dressed to Kill
  • William Friedkin for Cruising
  • Sidney Furie and Richard Fleischer for The Jazz Singer
  • Robert Greenwald for Xanadu
  • Stanley Kubrick for The Shining
  • Michael Ritchie for The Island
  • John Trent for Middle Age Crazy
  • Nancy Walker for Can’t Stop the Music
  • Gordon Willis for Windows

I prefer the old Razzies, I want those back. The ones that would include Michael Cimino and John Huston on their Worst Director lists. Today’s picks seem pretty toothless. It seems that there’s no more interest in being challenging or even genuinely provocative, and just a desire to reflect the ZOMG JACK AND JILL WOZ SOOOO BAD posts that clog up the internet.

Still, the winners will be announced, appropriately enough on April 1st. I’m expecting an Adam Sandler clean sweep, I think. He’s got the biggest target paint don him, and I can’t imagine they’ll do anything but dump the lot on him and break another record.

I wonder if anybody will let me place an accumulator bet?
