We Can Stop Looking Forward To The Movie Version Of The Boys Now
Put your anticipation for a big-screen adaptation of The Boys up on a high shelf. Columbia Pictures have decided to drop their in-development movie of the Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson comics completely.
Chances are, this will be the end of it. Though there is always a chance, when projects are put into turnaround like this, that another studio will sweep in and pick it up for themselves. It happens, sometimes, though typically not on smaller or less-well known projects.
The Other Guys‘ Adam McKay had been intent to direct, and had pledged to cast Simon Pegg in the role of Simon Pegg lookalike Wee Hughie, one of the CIA’s special squad of superhero handlers.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, drafts of the script had been written by:
Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay, as well as Seth Rogen… since the project was first set up in 2009.
Meanwhile, Columbia “imprint” label Screen Gems have scotched a project of their own, pulling the plug on their adaptation of young-adult fantasy book, Mortal Instruments. Priest‘s Scott Stewart was attached to direct, with Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower set to star.
Well, at least we don’t live in a world where Lilly Collins and Mortal Instruments stay on the yearplanner while Simon Pegg and The Boys gets scrubbed off.
So, that’s our Boys getting the kiss of death and Powers draining away on life support. Certain superhero tropes don’t seem to be making their way off of the page too successfully…
