From this first trailer, it seems that The Cold Light of Day has been built out of very familiar bits and pieces, but there’s no reason they couldn’t settle down into something solid and cogent. We’ve definitely seen Willis do this before, and Weaver’s role is rather close, on first inspection, to several others she’s had of late. The wild card, I suppose, is Henry Cavill who could break out here, ahead of his turn as Superman in next year’s Man of Steel.
The director is Mabrouk El Mechri, who caught a lot of attention with his odd, post0-modern Jean Claude Van Damme movie, JCVD.
Now… one of the familiar ideas I think you might just be able to sense lurking in this thing is something we last saw in Hanna. I’ve got a hunch we might see that play out…
