The Avengers Mini-Rushes – Superbowl Sneak News, Headgear, Headshots And More

There’s going to be a new Avengers promo played during The Superbowl – and, no doubt, online sometime shortly afterwards. In order to promote this trailer (I know, really) Marvel will be playing a ten second excerpt this Tuesday. Trailers for trailers are so established now… how long until trailers for trailers for trailers?

This new clip is part of a bigger promotion that Marvel will be doing, strung around a Twitter Q&A session happening this Tuesday:

Marvel Studios have announced that they will be sponsoring a Global Twitter Chat on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 11 a.m. PST with cast members and the director of their highly anticipated action-adventure “Marvel’s The Avengers,” opening in theaters on May 4, 2012. The 30-minute live tweeting event features writer/director Joss Whedon and cast members Tom Hiddleston and Clark Gregg.

Fans around the world will be able to participate in the Q&A on Twitter by using the @Avengers handle and the #Avengers hashtag. Participating fans will have the opportunity to see a 10-second tease of the 30-second Super Bowl spot that will air during Super Bowl XLVI on February 5 on NBC. They will also have a chance to answer “Avengers” trivia for a chance to win “Avengers” prize packs.

International fans will be able to submit questions for the talent in their native language through a global translation tool provided by Ortsbo.com. The chat will be moderated by Marvel’s @Agent_M.

I find it a surprise that the official Twitter handle @Avengers has less than four thousand followers right now. I’m sure that will change, and radically, before the Q&A.

Marvel have officially released a series of new photos from the film, watermarks and all. Still, they’re better quality than magazine scans, and not so naughty. Here they are, starting with a rather worrying image of Nick Fury, looking like somebody has just stabbed him behind the patch with that pencil from the Evil Dead.

A few days back, we had a look at a sort-of-animated-sort-of-3D poster for the film. Now, it’s back – not animated at all, but properly in 3D. This YouTube video can be watched with whatever 3D system you have – from red-blue lenses to a more modern screen. Just use the controls at the bottom to set the playback accordingly.

The conversion was done by FF Toons. Gold star.

Tony Stark’s Acura, as featured in the film, has been on display at Sundance – behind closed doors, away from the hoi polloi and, you know, actual films. Collider was allowed through to see the car, and they took a few snaps:

The cost, if it were real, would be $9,229,000.00 on the road. I’ll pass.

Neal McDonough, who played Dum Dum Duggan in the Captain America movie, has been talking about the future for his character in an interview:

Yeah, they’re planning (to go into production for) Captain America 2 for the end of this year, because Marvel does one film at a time. So they’re going to do Thor 2 and as soon as Thor has wrapped, they’ll do Cap 2. Hopefully right after that, we’ll jump into Nick Fury because that’s the one I’m looking forward to more than anything.

That’s right – he’s talking about a solo Nick Fury film. He continued:

It’ll be me and Sam Jackson. In the real Marvel universe, Dum Dum Dugan is Nick Fury’s right hand man.

…And I just pray that they have a 1970s setting, because I want to see Sam Jackson with lambchops kicking people’s asses for Marvel universe. It would just be awesome. And to work with Sam would be a treat. We’ve become friendly over the years.

Who knows if he’s just being wishful there? A Nick Fury picture rather than another Avengers team up?

I’d certainly like to see a Nick Fury pic, though, and largely for the sheer Samuel L. Jackson fun that they could pack into it.

This painterly character spread was at Movieweb.

And finally, here’s an image of the official replica Avengers headgear that eFX are releasing.

Thor’s hammer and Cap’s shield will also be available. Prices across the whole range will run from $49 to $1,500. Surely they wouldn’t even spend $1.500 per unit for the ones actually in the film?

Thanks to THR for the pic.

In case you’d forgotten, The Avengers opens in the US on May 4th, and in the UK a full week earlier on April 27th. Nice.
