Marvel, Panini And The Christmas Revelry Facebook Post

Okay, this is quite funny.

Bleeding Cool has previously reported on the European comic book situation regarding the licensing of Marvel titles.

Panini has a Europe-wide licensing agreement but the purchase of Marvel by Disney made some fear that this may challenge this deal.

Especially in Italy, a country in which Disney still has a strong publishing presence. Instead of licensing their characters elsewhere, Disney Italy publish their own comics, and so may be in a perfect position to start publishing Marvel comics if they so wished.

But of of late it all got a little odd.

Comicus in Italy reports that Panini editor Massimiliano Brighel posted on a Facebook group that the Panini/Marvel contract had been renewed up until 2018. On his own Facebook the following day, he confirmed the news and wished his readers a happy new year.

Ten hours later it's deleted.

In the Facebook group a few days later, Brighel confessed that the comments had been caused by too much Christmas partying and were not official.

Furthermore, Panini commented to Comicus stating that they hold an agreement with Marvel dating back to 1994 that lasts well beyond the date Brighel mentioned – the details of which of course are confidential.

At least he didn't mention Batman/Spider-Man.
