A Few More Avengers Details Come From... Guess Where? Starts With An L And Rhymes With Eggo

Okay, this is getting to be quite funny.

Yet another set of small-fry plot-details for an upcoming tentpole picture have seeped out through a toy licensing deal. This time it’s The Avengers, and the information comes from the names of some upcoming Lego sets.

The Avengers will be the only one of three Marvel lines that Lego have launching in the next few months to be based upon a film franchise specifically, with the movie rights situation meaning that the Spider-Man and X-Men sets are to be based upon the comics. The relationship between the Lego Avengers and their film was cemented months ago, in a press release:

The LEGO SUPER HEROES Marvel collection will spotlight three Marvel franchises – Marvel’s The Avengers movie, and X-Men and Spider-Man classic characters. The LEGO Marvel’s The Avengers movie line brings such ever popular Marvel characters as Iron Man, The Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye, Loki and Black Widow to LEGO minifigure form.

Curiously, it went on to list Nick Fury as part of the X-Men comics-derived set, but I think that was an error.

Here are the names of kits due for release in the spring, complete with minor spoilers:

6865 – Captain America’s Avenging Cycle
6867 – Loki’s Cosmic Cube Escape
6868 – Hulk’s Helicarrier Breakout
6869 – Quinjet Aerial Battle

So, as you can now see, Loki will be escaping with the cosmic cube, the Hulk will escape from the Helicarrier and the Quinjet will show up and battle. In the air.

Not the biggest revelations, but it does tie a bunch of old bits and pieces together. And besides, I’m still quite in love with Lego, I have to admit, and it’s nice to have some new sets to imagine.

Oh – incidentally, the Hulk minifig at the head of the post is a prototype shown off by Lego at Comic-Con last year. I’m sure it will have a face before it ships. Maybe it’s hard to capture all that rage in under a centimetre square.
