Thor 2 Gets A New Director For Christmas


Alan Taylor, a long time TV director and the man who made mid-90s indie hit Palookaville, has been handed the reins of Thor 2. Marvel previously appointed Patty Jenkins, but she and the studio parted ways amidst some controversy.

I remember Taylor’s other feature Palookaville quite well. It was a kind of caper comedy with film nerd veins, inspired by Mario Monicelli’s Big Deal on Madonna Street and ostensibly adapted from three short stories by Italo Calvino. Vincent Gallo and William Forsythe were both pretty great in the film.

Now, it’s worth remembering that Marvel already asked one director to leave Thor 2, so in appointing Taylor it seems that they must feel confident he won’t do what Jenkins did (or, perhaps, will do what she would not). Here’s hoping that the studio and director’s shared vision for the film is a strong one.
