Noomi Rapace And Maybe Rachel McAdams To Get Caught In The Throes Of Brian De Palma’s Passion

Sherlock Holmes – A Game of Shadows co-stars Noomi Rapace and Rachel McAdams look set for an altogether more enticing collaboration in the cast of Brian De Palma’s Passion.

The film is to be a remake of this year’s French thriller, Crime d’Amour. Anne Thompson reports that Ms. McAdams is currently in talks for a role, which I assume would be Ludivine Sagnier’s part; Ms. Rapace would then pick up after Kristin Scott Thomas.

Here’s a trailer for the French original:

Now imagine that, delivered with De Palma’s super polished style and virtually peerless grasp on suspense mechanics. I want to see that film.

Thomspon also delivers a quote from De Palma on why he’s interested in the project:

Not since Dressed to Kill have I had a chance to combine eroticism, suspense, mystery and murder into one spell-binding cinematic experience. I can’t wait.

Has he forgotten Femme Fatale and Body Double? Maybe he’s just assuming we have.

(Note: I did not mention The Black Dahlia because it failed, I’m afraid to say, on the counts of both eroticism and suspense)

The shoot for Passion is set for a March 5th start in Berlin, with a budget of $20 million – that will pay for a lot of steadicam and split diopter time, so I’m happy.

Where this development leaves De Palma’s Key Man, which was being prepped even very recently, is not yet clear.
