New Doctor Who Set Snaps Tie In To The Climax Of The God Complex

I was quite surprised by the end of saturday’s Doctor Who episode, The God Complex. To discuss this, and the new set pictures, we’re going to have to leap into some shallow spoilers, but I don’t think there’s much here to confuse or pre-empt the hardcore fans.

So, where did we leave things on Saturday? Amy and Rory have a new house, a gift from the Doctor, with a fancy new car like a cherry on top. The Doctor has how hopped back into his TARDIS and gone off alone. Next week, it seems, he’s going to be hanging out with Craig Owens again.

But he’ll be back to see the Ponds (or Williams as he’s now wanting to call them) for the finale episode, right?

Well, maybe not. We don’t know that.

Here are some shots from the ongoing filming of the Christmas special, courtesy of Twitter user @VickyCymru. What you’ll see is the TARDIS parked across the street from the Williams house.

The scene being shot showed the Doctor turning up on the Ponds’ doorstep. It would make a nice bookend to the wrap-up of The God Complex, with the Doctor coming back to where he deposited his friends.

We can expect to see the Ponds in the finale in some way or another as we’re headed back to Lake Silencio, but it’s not a given that we’ll see more of them as they are “now”, continuing along their personal narrative timeline. We may be dealing with Amy and Rory at a different point in their history – that’s not impossible at all in these timey wimey storylines.

Alternatively, the Ponds may be back in the TARDIS and the Doctor might say his goodbyes again at the end of episode 13. We really won’t know until we know. But at least there’s now confirmation of Amy and Rory appearing in the Christmas special.

Beyond Christmas, we do know for sure that Karen Gillan is back next year, because she said so. Arthur Darvill is still undeclared, though at this stage, I can’t quite imagine one without the other.
