The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Fake Leaks Continue

Earlier this year, the original “red band” trailer for David Fincher’s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was “leaked” online. Pretty soon, it was sniffed out for what it was – a marketing ploy by Sony (or perhaps Fincher and his cohort, but I’d expect the studio were at least complicit).

And they’re at it again.

/film received a link to Mouth Taped Shut, a Tumblr containing images and video from the closed sets and editing room in which the film has been constructed. There’s nothing on here that will spoil the film in any respect, and it’s obviously all been very carefully stage managed.

There’s a serious effort going on to surround this film with a certain ambience, a kind of punkiness and an anti-corporate position that belies its multi-million dollar budget and subtitle-fleeing remake status.

I’m not sure if we’ve seen any more of this film so far than lifestyle porn and posture. From where I’m looking, this mock-rebellious marketing is just dull fog in front of the film itself.

Big films cost big bucks and have expensive marketing campaigns and this one’s no different – the PR and marketing crews just seem to be pretending that’s not the case at all. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is, no matter what else it turns out to be, a hugely expensive but exploitable commodity that a multinational corporation will be looking to monetize in every way they can. It’s like a Kit Kat or an iPhone or  pair of Dr. Martens boots.

It’s a Che Guevera T-shirt from a high street store.

Of course, wearing Che Guevera on your chest might be a sincere, and potentially even very powerful, personal statement…
