Before the season, each member of the Shawnee High School football team's senior class assigned themselves a member of the Justice League, DC Comics' group of superheroes which includes the likes of Batman, Green Lantern and the Flash.

The players decided to wear their superhero's shirt under their uniform. Braves quarterback Brad Jarzab, of course, was given Superman.

I've come to the conclusion that comics are a bit like golf, or Susan Boyle, or threesomes. You can find large sections of the population who can't get enough of that kind of thing, while the rest of us just don't see where the fun is supposed to lie. But when done right, for me, no other entertainment form can match the beautiful synthesis of hand-crafted art with lovingly chosen words.

When I was working on 52, I half-jokingly asked Geoff Johns what it was with him and decapitations. If you've read his work, you'll know what I'm talking about. Black Adam, in particular, had a penchant for removing the top, so to speak. His response was that he'd grown up playing Mortal Kombat.
