Numbercrunching The Appeal Of The DC Relaunch
Over 10,000 people seem to have responded to the Comic Book Resources survey on the public appeal for the upcoming DC Relaunch, title by title.
But statistician Matt Holmes decided to do a little analysis for Bleeding Cool, with different weightings. Here’s how he got his different results.
# 1 – Each “Absolutely” gets 3 pts, each “Very Likely” gets 2, each “Likely” gets 1, each “Unlikely” gets –1 and each “No Way” gets –3. With that allocation, ten titles were net positive.
# 2 – Same as # 1 except I counted “No Way” as –2 instead of –3. Under that weighting, 18 of the 52 were net positive
# 3 – Adding up the total of the first 3 categories (all were positive) and subtracted the results in the last 2 categories (negative). That gave us 14 positive titles.
The 10 titles that show up favourably in all 3 weightings are: Justice League, Action, Batman, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Batwoman, Wonder Woman, Superman, Batman & Robin and Batgirl.
Here’s how it all breaks down.

But anyone trying to make statistical sense of this kind of survey is always reminded of what will actually happen…
