Green Lantern ARG Gets Real – For Science

There’s a Green Lantern movie ARG running at the moment and while I’m not sure what I can and can’t tell you*, there’s a recent development I have to flag up: the game has now crossed over into the real world.
Indeed, it’s crossed over into the depths of real space.
A link appeared on the ARG’s Space forum today that will take you to The Spitzer Data Interface. There are videos there that explain it better than I ever could, but the short version of it is this: you can look at actual unidentified space objects and play a part in identifying them. It’s citizen astronomy and something the Galaxy Zoo project pioneered. It’s fun, can be a bit addictive, and actually allows for you and me and everyone we know to make a real, honest contribution to science.
For me, that makes this one of the nicest movie promos I’ve ever seen.
*Get digging into this ARG and you’ll unlock some really cool stuff. Promise.
