Last night a “meet the cast” event for the Channel 4 late night sitcom Friday Night Dinner, starring Tamsin Greig, Simon Bird and Mark Heap, at the London Apple Store.
Because, of course, that’s the place all the groovy cats hang out.
Anyway, with the first series coming to a close, the editor of Channel 4 comedy chose that moment to offer the cast, the writer and the show’s producer a second series, which they duly accepted. But had no idea they were about to be asked, there and then.
Cue lots of agents ringing each other up, asking “did you know”, “what did you say”, complaints about unprofessionality from some, and admiring congratulations of publicity coups from others.
So there you go. Second series of Friday Night Dinner, announced to the viewers at the same time as the people who make the damn thing.
