Erik Larsen Helps Comic Relief Employee Open New Store On Old Premises

Erik Larsen Helps Comic Relief Employee Open New Store On Old PremisesLess than two months after Comic Relief in Berkeley closed and The Escapist comic store opened with the closed store's stock, another Berkeley comic store is opening.

Uel Carter, employee of the store will now launch rival store Fantastic Comics on the old Comic Relief premises. And Image founder and Savage Dragon creator Erik Larsen will be a partner in the new store. The Berkleyside quotes Larsen as saying "Comic Relief was a destination in Berkeley and that's what we hope for Fantastic Comics — for it to be more than simply a comic book store — but a reason for visiting the East Bay. I think Fantastic Comics will be a great shop — very much in the tradition of what Comic Relief was."

With Geoff Johns buying into Earth 2, is this the new done thing? For comic book creator/executives to get a bit of retail action on the side?

Either way, there will now be two comic book stores in Berkeley for the first time in nearly fifteen years.
