You gotta love Brian De Palma. You gotta love Al Pacino. Gotta love Giorgio Moroder‘s soundtrack. Gotta love Michelle Pfeiffer. And John A. Alonozo’s cinematography. And Steven Bauer as Manny Ribero. Gotta love how Brian De Palma released an uncut version instead of the R rated version approved by the MPAA. Gotta love how he got away with it.

Gotta love Ed Richardson’s lurid, sometimes ludicrous art direction.

Gotta love “Say hello to my little friend”. And “I kill a communist for fun, but for a green card, I gonna carve him up real nice”. And “In this country, you gotta make the money first. Then when you get the money, you get the power. Then when you get the power, then you get the women.”

And you gotta love that somebody has calculated an average of 1.32 F-words spoken per minute.

And that the film is dedicated to Ben Hecht and Howard Hawks, the writer and director of the 1932 Scarface.

And that De Palma passed on Flashdance to direct this instead.

Gotta love that you can see Brian De Palma reflected in a mirror just before Tony gets shot in the Babylon club.

Gotta love how blatantly Jacobean it all is.

And that the best ideas were Sidney Lumet and Brian De Palma’s and not screenwriter Oliver Stone’s.

Okay, okay, you don’t gotta do any of that. But I do.

The Scarface Blu-ray isn’t out until 5 September, but you can pre-order it now, if you’re going to buy it in the UK.
