King’s Speech Director Turned Down Iron Man 3, May Take Up Les Miserables

Josh Hylton writes for Bleeding Cool:

I feel like if you were Tom Hooper, who directed last year’s brilliant The King’s Speech, you would probably have a number of projects already lined up. With that film’s multiple Oscar nominations and surprising box office staying power, the best thing he could possibly do is keep the ball rolling, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. At the moment, he has confirmed, though that’s not to say he isn’t getting offers.

The Los Angeles Times is claiming that Hooper actually turned down directing Iron Man 3 and is currently considering stepping behind the camera for another adaptation of Les Miserables (which has never been adapted in any form ever…ever). The former piece of that news is more interesting to me than the latter because another version of that oft told story does nothing for me, but a Hooper directed Iron Man could have been unique. Regardless, it’s not happening, so no use pondering.

In related news, Daily Mail is reporting that David Seidler, the writer of The King’s Speech, is currently penning a story about explorer Lady Hester Stanhope, otherwise known as “Queen of the East.” It would take place in the mid-19th century and is being described as “a female Lawrence of Arabia.” Late last year, Hooper was attached to this project too.

Busy busy.
