Tim Fish, SCARCE At Angoulême

Bonjour à tous!

Angoulême is the largest comic book convention in the world, held in France. SCARCE is a French magazine, running quarterly since 1983 focusing on American comics, available through subcriptions (7€ per issue, 25€ for 4 issues, shipped worldwide).

Xavier Lancel is the current editor-in-chief and he will be providing Bleeding Cool with a look at the 38th festival and running commentary from the SCARCE crew at the show.

The magazine likes to invite prominent American comic creators to the show (and the occasional Brit too) and has conducted a series of profile questionnaires with their guests before the festival begins. And here's Tim Fish

Who are you?

Tim Fish, Boston-based writer and artist, creator of the series CAVALCADE OF BOYS, its spin-off graphic novels, and more. My "pro" credits include Marvel's NATION X, IRON MAN: TITANIUM, I ♥ MARVEL; and Oni's HOPELESS SAVAGES GREATEST HITS.

Is it your first trip to France, to the Angouleme Festival?

No to both!—I feel so fortunate to have been described as "becoming a staple" for the festival. I initially went since so much of CAVALCADE had been translated by a French publisher. But I always have English editions on hand for the many attendees of the festival who don't speak French. What do you expect from it? An amazing amount of fun. Much like other big festivals, I only see certain friends once a year, at the festival…geek gathering of some dear friends. I also love seeing all the graphic novels from other countries that we rarely get to see here in the U.S. It's always very inspirational.

Are you ready? Any specific fear about it?

Um…that reminds me…I need to get ready. NYCC wiped me out of business cards even. No fears, no worries.

Do you speak french?

I try. I have studied French for years, and struggle to maintain, say nothing of improve. This past year, I have not studied at all, being such a challenging year for me…so I go with the worst vocabulary and accent, ever. I am told I am very cute when I speak French…I think in the "aw, listen to him trying" sort of way…
