Ewan McGregor To Star In Eco-Pirate Action Film, Ocean Warrior

Development of Ocean Warrior was reported in November, when Variety reported that Keith Ross Leckie and Julie Allan had been set to work on the screenplay. Based upon the exploits of sometime Greenpeace activist and founder of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, Capt. Paul Wilson, the film was being described as an action-thriller.

Now Wilson himself has revealed that Ewan McGregor has won the lead role. He said:

The making of this movie has been a project in Hollywood since 1981 when Tony Bill first bought the rights from me for Warner Brothers. The option rights have been purchased every year but now finally it looks promising, with a written script and serious pre-production work. Over the years a number of actors have requested to play my part including Sean Penn, Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aiden Quinn, Rutger Hauer, Clive Owens etc. As of now it looks like Ewan McGregor. I think he will do a good job, although I would love to see long time Sea Shepherd supporter Christian Bale take the part. As for a leading lady my favourite actress has always been Sophie Marceau, but the choice is not mine unfortunately.

I know I’ve just learnt something about Christian Bale, how about you?

Ecorazzi culled Watson’s comments from the Planet Ocean Alliance forum, though I couldn’t see precisely where. They note that Watson went on to say production is expected to go ahead in Australia at some time later this year.
